Connecting Research for Progress
We are pleased to share the next step in the development of the Pancreatic Cancer Research Map -- the inclusion of projects funded by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PCAN), the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the American Cancer Society (ACS), and the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI-UK).
The Pancreatic Cancer Research Map sought to include ALL pancreatic cancer research projects. The first step towards that goal began in November 2004 when the Pancreatic Cancer Research Map launched with the publicly–funded National Cancer Institute portfolio.
All of the participating organizations have coded their research projects to the Common Scientific Outline as well as to the Pancreatic Cancer Progress Review Group (PRG) recommendations. The investigators from each organization have been invited to join the investigator database and add their detailed research information. We are in the process of adding historical project information from these organizations (back to the 2001 funding year). Once these data are added, the MAP will illustrate, for the first time ever, the most comprehensive, real-time listing of the current pancreatic cancer research and what has been undertaken since the Pancreatic Cancer PRG made its recommendations in 2001.
This collection of data is a valuable resource that will benefit the pancreatic cancer research community and the pancreatic cancer patient. Some examples of how the data can be used:
Future plans include inviting other privately-funded pancreatic cancer research organizations to become part of the Pancreatic Cancer Research Map.
