March 6, 2008: The Cancer Map Extends to Canada
The Pancreatic Cancer Research Map is happy to announce the recent addition of the Canadian Cancer Research Alliance (CCRA) projects. CCRA is an alliance of cancer research funding organizations and affiliated partners working together to enhance the overall state of cancer research funding in Canada through improved communication, cooperation and coordination. CCRA is committed to planning a more effective pan-Canadian approach to cancer research and utilize strategic partnerships to overcome some of the barriers to pursuing those major research programs which would truly transform the state of cancer research in Canada. As one of the International Cancer Research Partners, CCRA has mapped its portfolio in a common manner (using the Common Scientific Outline research categories). July 7, 2007: Researchers Identify Stem Cells in Pancreatic Cancer.
University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center researchers have discovered the small number of cells in pancreatic cancer that are capable of fueling the tumor's growth. The finding is the first identification of cancer stem cells in pancreatic tumors, and could lead to more effective treatments. The study, Pancreatic Cancer Stem Cells has been funded by the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research and led by Diane Simeone, M.D., director of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Program at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center. August 30, 2005: New Funding Organizations Join the Cancer Map.
We are pleased to share the next step in the development of the Pancreatic Cancer Research Map -- the inclusion of projects funded by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN), the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the American Cancer Society (ACS), and the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI-UK).
